Today we had a field trip. Hard work, chaperoning 2 students past long lines of school busloads, but we made it. The Blue Ridge Orchestra gave a great performance of Peter & the Wolf, complete with demonstrations of each instrument group for the kids. I think this was the first time either boy has heard the term "woodwind" or thought about different instruments functioning as the low notes and high notes in an ensemble piece. What a great learning experience! Here they are before the performance:
Liam, of course, was enthralled with the drums, and Gavin was looking for a piano. (There wasn't one, this time). This is inspiring me to dig up The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof... before they're too old to appreciate classic musical theater.
